Bye Bye Ladybird

Isabell, one of our 5 metre Bell Tents is very sad right now. She is sad because at the weekend she lost a dear friend, who had been with her for about four weeks.

Isabell is inconsolable. She mourns with a strong and silent devotion the loss of her pet ladybird. She didn’t have a name, she was simply called ‘Ladybird’ but that little black and red beetle had become a fixed feature with Isabell for some time now and the two had grown quite attached.

We first noticed Ladybird about four or five weeks ago, she was sat up high near the top of the pole, and at the end of the booking, we tried to remove her, but she did want want to come down, prefering to take her chances inside. After that, with each booking she would happily stay there whether Isabell was up or down, Ladybird remained, shaking her spots out for every set up and hunkering down for every take down. She did not complain about being packed away with Isabell in her bag, and I guess Isabell rather liked the company. Someone to talk to on those long nights, and the feel of tiny tickly feet running on her canvas. This weekend when we put up Isabell, we noticed Ladybird was not in her usual spot, we thought she may have moved on, but we were very sad when we found her body a little while later.

So, if anyone who has stayed in Isabell recently has any stories or reminiscences about Ladybird, we urge you to get in touch. I can read them aloud to our poor forlorn girl and maybe this will help to bring her out of her reverie of misery.

Isabell says ‘Goodbye Ladybird’

She misses you but was glad for the time you had together and the friendship you shared, however brief it may seem.

P.S. If you are interested, Isabell’s Ladybird was black with two red spots like the one bottom right in the image above! A Harlequin Ladybird I do believe.

What do you think?
